Originally this arrangement was integrated in a project about Franz Schubert. It was a good way for a cheerful an practical implementation of this item.

Most people know the melody of 'greensleeves'. But only a few realize it as an English Christmas carol of the 19 th century.

"Hark! The Herald Angels Sing" is a Christmas carol that first appeared in 1739 in the collection Hymns and Sacred Poems, having been written by Charles Wesley. In 1840, a hundred years after the publication of Hymns and Sacred Poems, Mendelssohn composed a cantata (Festgesang) to commemorate Johann Gutenberg's invention of the printing press. In 1855, English musician William H. Cummings adapted Felix Mendelssohn's secular music from Festgesang to 
fit the lyrics of "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing" written by Charles Wesley.
Here a version for youth orchestra with four-part choir ad. lib. The original is adorned by a prelude, two interludes and figuration. Thereby it's festive impression is increased.

This piece is a cheerful movement with a fugato part in distinctive baroque tempo. Well suitable for a festive concert, also at Christmas time.

Wagner for a youth orchestra? No! Or perhaps yes? Surely a thrilling project. By skilful choice of the keys and minimum changes a version has been created, which is very well presented by an advanced youth orchestra. It also makes a lot of playful joy and provides a perfect entrance to the wonderful soundscape of this composer.

The most well known orchestral composition of Wagner was created in 1880 and performed first at the birthday of Cosima Wagner (Dec 25th) in a version for chamber ensemble. The name of the work remembers to their son Siegfried and refers also to the thematic material from the third act of the same-named music drama.

Here the basis is the original four-part string setting. Winds give varity of colors, make accents and cause the structure. The result: a beautiful, gladly played piece in a magnificent garment.

The well known ans popular composition in a facilitated version for youth orchester. First of all the key was changed (A -> G). The solo Englisch horn was substituted by the first alto sax, a good player is necessary. Alltogether the result is respectable and will be an enrichment for your orchestra!

In 1551 the Antwerpen composer and publisher released a little music book called "Dansereye". It contained fourpart dancing tunes about well known chants and own compositions.
Here a simple version of five compositions for your youth orchestra. The catchy melodies, the driving rhythms and the colorful instrumentation will enthuse surely!

A combination of particulary effective sections. Inside: Hornpipe1, Air, Bourrée, Minuet. The original winds (oboe, horns, bassoon) were extended in some places. The string setting is like the original, the repetitions were orchestrated in different manner to increase their colouring.

The grand finale from Moussorgsky's piano cycle in a facilitated version for youth orchestra. Inspired by the brilliant instrumentation of Maurice Ravel, reinforced by numerous percussion instruments a magnificent sound creation is formed. The choose of the keys and other details make this movement also playable for your orchestra.

The second promenade in lower pitch and soft dynamic level points to "The Old Castle". The painful main theme in minor is drawing through the piece easily modified. Chordal counterparts create a colourful harmony partly full of tension. An ostinato over the root G in six-eight time provides stability, but is also pressing forward.
The version is well playable and will inspire your orchestra.

The first promenade powerful introduces the cycle and underlines the unusual phrases and change of time by means of the instrumentation. The following "Bydlo" - an image of a heavy oxcart - starts with loudness, increases again and ends with a pianissimo.
The special keys and the not too difficult kind of voice leading let these movements being playable also by your orchestra.

The patriotic song of the British composer grew in popularity by using in the London Last Night of the Proms. Here an easy arrangement for youth orchestra where the original vocal part is played by the clarinets. The four-part choir at the end is optional. The glorious sound of this peace will delight your orchestra.
