These are different from professional orchestras in the reduced instrumentation and lower fitness of the members. So you can hardly find all instruments which you need for an orginal orchestra instrumentation.

The "Pas de deux" from Act 2 is one of the highlights of the entire Nutcracker Ballet. The quite simple main theme - actually a falling octave - is increased in many ways and led to a finale. In this version the instrumentation is smoothed out a little and made easier. Most important is the piano part, which replaces the original 2 harps. The well-known excerpt from Wagner's opera in a version for youth orchestra and two-part choir (ad. lib.). The choice of a new key (G major instead of B major) made the piece much easier or even playable for a youth orchestra. Even small changes in instrumentation contribute to this. The glorious, magnificent effect is preserved. The three solo fanfares were integrated as trumpets into the orchestration. Level: advanced.

By skilful choice of the keys and minimum changes a version has been created, which is very well presented by an advanced youth orchestra. It also makes a lot of playful joy and provides a perfect entrance to the wonderful soundscape of this composer. The most well known orchestral composition of Wagner was created in 1880 and performed first at the birthday of Cosima Wagner (Dec 25th) in a version for chamber ensemble.
